The Northwest Feed Manufacturers Association (first called the Northwest Feed Manufacturers & Distributors Association) was organized September 9, 1937, by a group of about 50 individuals  interested in the feed business. It grew through successive years and currently has a membership of about 100 firms and more than 250 individual representatives of these firms.

NFMA is a registered non-profit organization that strives for the betterment of the feed manufacturing industry by providing the opportunity for business and academic leaders of the agricultural community to interact and develop issues of common interest.

NFMA takes a leadership role in the critical area of encouraging tomorrow's leaders through the offering of scholarships to undergraduate students at the University of Minnesota, South Dakota State University, University of Wisconsin-River Falls and Iowa State University.
