These materials also prevent the car from skidding when brakes are applied on a surface damped due to rainfall. They also shine less than the materials used in chipseal. This prevents headlights of cars from reflecting from the surface of the road and temporarily blinding the eyes of drivers approaching from the other side. The surface should be such that provide adequate grip to the tyres of the vehicle while it is moving, and allowing it to grip the surface when the driver applies the brakes.


Why do roads need resurfacing?

The surface of roads has to bear the weight of heavy vehicles passing over them. Each time the driver of any vehicle applies the brake, a tiny portion of the surface coating gets damaged due to friction. Over a period the surface gets damaged to such an extent that the subsoil gets exposed, leading to breakage and the formation of potholes. If proper care is not taken in time, the size of the potholes increases, posing dangers to motorists. In addition, water accumulating on the subsoil spreads to nearby areas and damages their surface too. This is the primary cause why roads need resurfacing.
